Two LA Sheriff’s Deputies Shot in Compton, Shooter Remain At Large – NBC Los Angeles

Two Los Angeles County Sheriff MPs were shot multiple times near the Compton Metro Blue Line station on Saturday and "are fighting for their lives" while the shooter remains at large.

Video of the ambush that took place shortly before 7 p.m. shows a lone gunman approaching the MPs parked SUV near the train station on Willowbrook Avenue and Elm Street and then opening fire through the passenger door before running away.

One of the MPs shot dead was a 34-year-old woman and the other was a 24-year-old man.

The surveillance video was posted on the Sheriff's Department Twitter account. Warning that the video is interfering.

A massive search for Sagittarius is ongoing.

"A male deputy and a female deputy were ambushed while they were in their patrol car. Both sustained multiple gunshot wounds and are in critical condition. Both are currently undergoing surgery," said a tweet from the department.

LA Sheriff Alex Villanueva said both MPs were sworn in just 14 months ago. He also said that their job "doesn't get any easier because people don't like law enforcement".

The suspect approached from behind, walked down the passenger side of the car, raised a pistol and fired several shots, hitting both MPs before escaping on foot, Captain Kent Wagner said.

The FBI also said in a tweet that they had offered and would give the LASD any assistance it needed.

According to Metro, there will be no Blue Line service between Artesia Boulevard and Willowbrook Avenue / Rosa Parks for the rest of the night due to the shooting. Passengers should use the Metro Bus 55 or a bus shuttle service.

    This is a developing story.
