A 25-year-old man who was allegedly armed with a knife was fatally shot by police in Anaheim, authorities said on Sunday.
Patrolmen were in the 2500 block area of East Ward Terrace Street around 9:40 p.m. Saturday looking for Jesse David Nava, wanted for alleged sexual assault, Anaheim Police Sgt. Shane Carringer said.
When police found Nava, police said he armed himself with a knife and approached the police, who shot him, Carringer said.
After the shooting, the suspect was treated on site by officers and paramedics and then taken to the UCI Medical Center for emergency surgery, he said. However, Nava died of his injuries at 9:30 a.m. on Sunday.
The shooting was investigated by the department's Major Incident Review team and the Orange County Attorney's Office. The latter received video footage of the shooting.
