Los Angeles nursing home accused of dumping patients amid virus

LOS ANGELES (AP) – The Los Angeles Prosecutor's Office accuses a nursing home of illegally "dumping" old and disabled residents to increase profits from the coronavirus epidemic.

The city's lawyer says the misconduct of the qualified care facility in Lakeview Terrace is due to the fact that nursing homes have an incentive to fire long-term residents to make room for COVID-19 patients – for whom they are paid much more.

The Lakeview Terrace administrator denies the allegations and promises to fight them in court.

The lawsuit says that in one case, an 88-year-old man with dementia was taken from the nursing home to a pension and later wandered around the street.
