Preston's husband, actor John Travolta, paid tribute to Instagram on Sunday, where he confirmed the news of her death.

"With a very heavy heart, I inform you that my beautiful wife Kelly has lost her two-year fight against breast cancer. It has waged a brave struggle with the love and support of so many, ”said Travolta.

“My family and I will be forever grateful to your doctors and nurses at the MD Anderson Cancer Center, all of the medical centers that have helped, and the many friends and loved ones who have been by your side. Kelly's love and life will always be remembered. I will take some time to be there for my children who have lost their mother. So forgive me in advance if you haven't heard from us for a while. But please know that in the coming weeks and months I will feel your love when we heal. "

Preston had a long acting career in film and television and played alongside Kevin Costner in the film "For the Love of the Game" in 1999. In 2003 she played in "What a Girl Wants" and as a mother in the live action adaptation of "The Cat in the Hat". The following year, she appeared in the music video for Maroon 5's "She Will Be Loved".

Russell Crowe tweeted that he met Preston "first in late 1992, I think" and added: "In 1995 we auditioned for Breaking Up together, Salma Hayek got this appearance." Crowe said he hadn't seen Preston much, "but when I did she was always the same jewel with sparkling eyes."

She occasionally appeared in films with her husband, as they did in the Battlefield Earth box-office bomb in 2000.

Preston and Travolta married in 1991 at a midnight ceremony in Paris.

Travolta and Preston had three children together: Jett, Ella Bleu and Benjamin.

In 2009, Jett died at the age of 16 in the family's vacation home on Grand Bahama Island.

The couple said Jett fell ill when he was 2 years old and was diagnosed with Kawasaki syndrome, a condition that causes inflamed blood vessels.

The death triggered legal proceedings after an ambulance driver and his lawyer were accused of attempting to extort $ 25 million from the actors in an attempt to avoid disclosing sensitive information about her son's death.

Travolta testified during a criminal trial that ended in legal proceedings and was ready to testify a second time, but decided not to pursue the case further and was dismissed. He quoted the heavy burden of the trial and the death of his son, who had caused the family.

Both Preston and Travolta returned to acting, with Preston's first role in the Nicholas Sparks adaptation of "The Last Song," starring Miley Cyrus and her future husband Liam Hemsworth.

Ella Bleu was born in 2000 and son Benjamin in 2010.

Ella wrote on Instagram on Sunday: “I have never met someone who was as brave, strong, beautiful and loving as you. Anyone lucky enough to have known you or ever been in your presence will agree that you have a glow and a light that never ceases to glow and that immediately makes everyone around you happy. "

Travolta and Preston met while filming "The Experts" in 1988.

They most recently played together in the 2018 film "Gotti", with Travolta John Gotti and Preston playing the wife of crime boss Victoria.
